Rilean Construction starts work on ‘The Landing’ development at Remarkables Park, Queenstown.

Queenstown’s leading construction company Rilean has started work on the The Landing development at Queenstown’s Remarkables Park Shopping Centre which will include 15 new shops and car parks.

The Landing is the second shopping centre investment by Queenstown-based couple Lindsay and Di Williams of Savanna Group, who developed the Terrace Junction complex by the Frankton roundabout.

Savanna Group bought the 1.2 hectare site off the Porter brothers’ Shotover Park company earlier this year and will now proceed with the 3,200sq m building.

The development comprises 15 new shops located in three buildings opposite the existing entrance to the Remarkables Park Town Centre and New World Supermarket and an additional 140 car parks.

Savanna Group Director Lindsay Williams said he was “extremely pleased” to announce that Rilean Construction has been awarded the main building contract to construct The Landing complex.

“Rilean is an established and highly regarded award-winning construction company with a reputation for high quality building,” said Mr Williams.

“We’re delighted they are on board and look forward to working with them on this project which is important for not only Frankton but the wider Queenstown area.”

Mr Williams noted that The Landing will provide more than 60 new jobs in Queenstown and was “encouraged” to be signing successful anchor tenants new to Queenstown.

“Leasing interest has been high and several anchor tenants have been secured, which we’ll announce shortly. We’re looking forward to contributing to the thriving area that Remarkables Park Town Centre has become.”

Rilean Construction has been responsible for some of Queenstown’s best known commercial buildings such as Novotel Queenstown, Queenstown Motor Group, Queenstown Airport Koru Lounge extension, The Royal Oak complex in Arrowtown and many of the Terrace Junction fitouts.

Rilean shareholder/director Steve McLean said he and the team we’re looking forward to starting work on the Landing project.

“The concept drawings feature a combination of cedar weatherboard, schist and patterned concrete walls in a heritage-style design that will complement the existing Remarkables Park Town Centre in Queenstown,” said Mr McLean.

“Unusually for Queenstown, The Landing will feature some open green space and a large north facing central courtyard with year-round sunshine. There are extensive bike parking facilities planned, along with generous car parking and traffic circulation areas.”

Mr. Williams commented that the Savanna Group was determined to “provide a relaxing and enjoyable environment which visitors and customers alike could enjoy while going about their shopping and dining activities”.

“The central courtyard has been designed as a family friendly area which will be particularly welcomed in an area dominated by a fast growing family population,” said Mr Williams.

The Landing is perfectly-located and will further strengthen the soon-to-be-built eastern access road linking the Remarkables Primary School, new Shotover Country Primary School and the new Wakatipu High School just a few hundred meters along the road.
