Italian pizzeria, bakery and organic health store to open at Queenstown’s The Landing

Two new businesses opening in Queenstown will bring a touch of European flair and organic goodness to The Landing development.

Experienced restauranteur and chef Jovan Sivakov and his family are moving from Auckland to establish The Artisan Bakery and Pizzeria, and open up right next door with the Organico Health Store.

The Italian family – which includes Jovan’s parents relocating from Taupo – own and operate three restaurants in Auckland and have 25 years’ of experience in Europe and New Zealand, 13 in Europe and the last 12 years in New Zealand.

The European-influenced Artisan Bakery and Pizzeria, open 12 hours daily from 6am, will offer all types of artisan bread from white to rye and French baguettes, as well as savoury and sweet pastries, croissants, cinnamon rolls, French tarts and meat pies.

The authentic Italian pizzeria will have space to dine in or take away.

The bakery and pizzeria will be the only place in Queenstown to serve Santos coffee, lauded in as the second-best organic coffee in New Zealand late last year in the Huhtamaki New Zealand Coffee Awards 2014.

The Organico Health Store will stock supplements, organic ice cream, dried fruit, seeds, organic pasta and oils, organic cosmetics and baby supplies, and will open from 8am to 6pm daily.

The two new businesses are scheduled to open their doors on May 1.

Meanwhile other businesses previously announced to the public are close to opening their doors.

Worldwide gym sensation Snap Fitness opens for clients early April. One of the gym’s three directors, Daniel Parsonage, said he was ‘excited’ to be opening Queenstown’s first 24-hour full gym facility with month by month contracts.

“It’s a $600,000 fit out, the equipment is up-to-the minute and is social media interactive, something unique in Queenstown,” he said.

“We’re happy to be part of the family at The Landing; there’s a good group of businesses set to be there.”

Also on the health and fitness vibe is Remarkable Physios, moving one of its clinics to The Landing and set to open its new doors on March 24. Managing director and principal physiotherapist Melissa Davidson said she was ‘really looking forward’ to the relocation.

“It’s an ideal ground floor spot with good parking and of course stunning views,” she said.

“It’s going to be great for our clients as its purpose-built, with lots of room and flexible, well-thought out spaces that are perfect for treatment and training,” Ms Davidson said.

The first stage of The Landing officially opened in December last year with Australasia’s leading automotive re-seller Repco becoming the first of the anchor tenants to open its doors. 

Repco will be joined by a number of other new businesses intending to open on or around April 16.

Former Dunedin ‘locals’ Ed and Bryony Devereux will open Odelay Café, an Alpine-inspired space nestled into a sheltered North-facing position with seating indoors and out, while well-known local businesswomen Christine and Sharron Holland will launch Queenstown’s first hair and fashion concept store.

Auckland-based premium meat providers Neat Meat will open its second retail store and wholesale business, and the sixth House of Travel store in Otago will bring a wealth of tourism trade experience to Queenstown.

Australian-owned Mexican franchise Zambrero will also be at The Landing, as well as a Christchurch-based ethnic grocery specialist, offering foods from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Set on 1.2 hectares, The Landing is Queenstown’s latest retail development and includes 110 car parks, 16 retail units, large green spaces, wide pathways, public seating and toilets and an abundance of bike parks.

The high-profile position, opposite the entrance to Remarkables Park Town Centre and adjoining Queenstown Airport, already has extremely good traffic movement.

Four premises are currently still available with areas from 80 to 330sqm and with strong expressions of interest registered for two of those.

Leading local construction company Rilean started work on the development in July 2014. Stage One is now completed, with Stage Two on schedule for next month.
